Home » 7 Life-hacks To Help You Dress Well On A Tight Budget

A common misconception today is that you have to spend a fortune to dress well or look good. It’s possible to dress well “as a guy” on a tight budget without having a sh*t ton if money in your bank account.

The ultimate goal of budget-friendly shopping is to get the most out of everything that you buy. Doing this will save you a lot of money in the process.

Reasons Why You Have To Work On Your Dressing (Budget Or Not)

Reasons to dress well even when on a tight budget

Personally I feel that everyone should at least try to look good, especially with your style of dressing. These are the reasons:

  • Create A Great First Impression: When meeting somebody for the first time, your outfit is the first thing that they notice about you. After noticing, a subconscious perception about you has already been made. It’s a good way to impress someone without saying a word. It could be a girl that you like, they particularly love well-dressed guys.
  • Dress For Success: The way you look has a big impact on how you’ll be addressed by other people. Take a job interview for example, your outfit will definitely have an impact on the results.
  • It’s Gives A Great Confidence Boost: Fashion is a way of expressing yourself and it helps with your confidence when you try to look good. Confidence is something that you need in whatever you decide to do in life.

Dressing well will make you feel good about yourself and that is the ultimate confidence booster. You need confidence to command respect and also to get people’s attention. Relationship-wise, confidence also helps your game when talking to any girl that you may like.

As implied earlier, it’s actually easy to dress well and be confident in your outfit without spending much. Here are my personal favorite budget fashion life-hacks for men:

1. White/Black Shoes Help You Save Money

When on a tight budget, it’s obvious that you won’t be able to buy all the shoes that you want or all shoe colors. One trick that can help here is to get shoes of neutral colors (black or white).

My personal favorite and recommended neutral colors for shoes are black or white. The ultimate advantage of getting shoes of these colors is that they can match with basically any color combination on outfits. It’s like buying 3-4 shoes in the form of one.

You can also wear white or black shoes multiple times without worrying about it going out of style on you. This will help you with your longterm dressing when on a low budget. Another reason why I love black shoes is that they are easy to clean.

2. Get Oversized T-Shirts

Oversized (baggy) T-shirts are the ultimate life-hacks. They look better than fitted most times and they are also proven to last longer because you grow into them as time goes by.

Oversized T-shirts are also good for insecurities like being skinny. Skinny guys often look great in these shirts. One more advantage of baggy shirts is that it’s more comfortable for most people.

From an economic perspective, it’s going to last longer than normal sized shirts.

3. Get Neutral Colored Clothes

Just like black/white shoes, investing in neutral colored clothes is better for your budget than other colors. These neutral colors like black, white and grey go well together irrespective of the combination. You can wear all three colors and still look great. This means you can survive even if you don’t have too many of these.

It will be more difficult (and more expensive) to dress well with normal color combinations (primary or secondary colors) when you’re on a tight budget.

4. Go For Quality Over Quantity

It’s much more economical to buy clothes and shoes of decent quality than those of low quality. It’s even though it will cost more but in longterm it’s more budget-friendly. Hear me out guys.

Thinking longterm, low quality clothes are somewhat of a waste of money because they won’t last long and they don’t look good. It’s actually affecting the way you look and it’s not economical because you’ll have to buy a replacement sooner.

When you buy something that’s up to standard, it will last longer and it will look better on you. It doesn’t have to be the most expensive brand on the market but it’ll have similar quality.

Pro tip: One thing that you can do is to get the best of both worlds. Split your budget and get some low quality and decent quality clothes. You can use the good quality clothes when you want to look good while you use the low quality clothes for normal outings or when you’re indoors. This is a great way of working with a tight budget.

5. Plain Clothes Are Budget-friendly

Clothes without prints on them are very good options if you’re looking to dress well and look good on a tight budget. You can get these without spending much and they look good if you go with the right colors. Plain clothes with neutral colors (as I mentioned earlier) look amazing and their color combinations never go wrong.

Plain clothes are much cheaper than those with patterns or prints on them. Getting plain clothes of decent quality is a must for anyone that is looking to save some cash from their fashion shopping.

6. Less Popular Brands Are Unique And Budget-friendly

In business and markets in general, there will be a ton of options for you to choose from. People often go for the famous brands and that’s fine if they can affor. These expensive brands won’t do you any good if you’re working with tight budgets.

Fashion-wise, unpopular brands can be a blessing to anyone that is looking to save some money. It also helps when the brands produce quality items. These brands are trying to get more customers and grow. This is why they usually provide affordable options unlike the more famous brands.

The downside here is that not all unpopular brands produce quality clothing but a lot of them do. Some unpopular brands are also very unique. This can make you look a lot more stylish than you would with famous branded clothing.

7. Thrift Stores

If you find yourself struggling to but brand new clothes and shoes of quality, thrift stores aren’t a bad option. There are a lot of decent quality items in thrift stores. The only issue here is that there are lots of low quality thrifts as well.

Shopping in thrift stores isn’t something to be ashamed of. It’s actually very useful is you’re out to save some cash or your on a low budget.

As you can see, it’s rather easy to dress well with a tight budget. All you have to do is look for the right items that match your taste and your bank account.
